The International School of Choueifat - Doha Marks its 10th Anniversary with a Joyful Celebration
Although the Mother School was established in 1886 in Lebanon, the first branch of The International Schools of Choueifat (members of the SABIS® School Network) in the Gulf opened in 1975-1976 in Sharjah, UAE. Now, there are over 61 schools located in four continents. The SABIS® educational system is applied in all these schools. The syllabus is specifically designed by SABIS® to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in top universities around the world. It is neither British nor American, yet every year our graduates join top universities like Oxford, Cambridge, MIT, U-Penn, McGill, etc.
The curriculum is a fully integrated, university preparatory program, emphasizing English, Mathematics, Sciences and a second world language. It is designed with the steady development of these core subjects and allowing easy transition from one grade level to the next in mind.
To celebrate its tenth anniversary, ISC-Doha held a special dinner gathering for its staff at the Intercontinental Hotel on Friday, June 5th, 2009.
Many of the staff members have been with the school since its inception, and awards were duly presented to those who have provided 10, 7 and 5 years of service respectively to the school and its community, in recognition of their long-term loyalty and support. The school opened its doors in September 1999 with around 350 students, and now boasts a school population of over 1,500 from pre-KG to Grade 12.
Speakers during the evening included SABIS® Regional Director Mr. Ramzi Germanos, and ISC-Doha Director Mr. Joseph Salemeh, who pointed out that, while the school enjoys a beautiful setting and superb facilities, including the recent additions of new classrooms, a large cafeteria, and an ITL (Integrated Testing and Learning) computerized hall, these alone cannot make a great school. It is the all-round standards that have been set, the relentless effort to achieve these standards, and the spirit that permeate an institution that make a great school.
The school is proud of its history and of the fact that it has prepared so many young people for successful careers. This year, students have gained entry to prestigious universities in Canada, UK, the United States and the Middle East. These academic achievements have not been at the expense of the whole student, as the school remains committed to fostering enthusiasm and talent in every area, be it sports, arts, music, or community service through its Student Life Organization.
The administration went on to thank the school’s corporate associates who generously sponsored the gifts that were distributed during the course of the evening.
All who were present at this memorable event made the most of the evening’s entertainment, which included a raffle draw, and the presentation of long service awards. All in all, it was an immensely enjoyable function.
